ISA Forum of Sociology
“Empowering Voices through Knowledge of Organisations and Their Communication: Building Just Futures in the Anthropocene”
Rabat, Morocco, July 6-11, 2025
International Sociological Association
Organizers:
Michael Grothe-Hammer, Norwegian
University of Science and Technology (NTNU), Trondheim, Norway
Victoria Sanagustín Fons, University of Zaragoza, Spain
José A. Ruiz San Román, Universidad Complutense Madrid, Spain
Submission deadline for abstracts (max. 300 words): October 15, 2024
This session brings together ISA’s Research Committees 14 (Sociology of Communication, Knowledge and Culture) and 17 (Sociology of Organizations) with AISOC (the Ibero-American Association of Research in Sociology of Organizations and Communication) and opens space for the participation of researchers in the field of Organisations, Communication and Sustainable Development.
The session will discuss relevant questions such as: What does "knowing" mean in the context of the Anthropocene? Whose knowledge counts? What forms of knowledge are prioritised, and with what consequences for social change? While some sub-disciplines have actively contributed to academic and public debates, sociology in general has not been at the centre of these debates about living conditions with and in the Anthropocene. How might engaging the sociological imagination in debates about the Anthropocene better contribute to these public debates about our individual and collective capacities to live together in such an epoch?
This session provides a platform to deepen and answer the questions posed, both from a theoretical and empirical perspective. Academics and practitioners are invited to participate. This call seeks to foster an interdisciplinary dialogue to analyse the challenges of the Anthropocene from multiple angles. Contributions from the sociology of organisations and communication are expected to provide new insights and innovative approaches to understanding and addressing the social, political and cultural implications of this new geological era. The richness of perspectives and the synergy between the different disciplines represented in this forum will be fundamental to develop situated and transformative knowledge that better equips researchers, practitioners and citizens to face the challenges of the Anthropocene in a collaborative and socially just manner.
This session is part of the program of the Research Committees on Sociology of Communication, Knowledge and Culture (RC14) and Sociology of Organizations (RC17) of the International Sociological Association (ISA).
Note that the session might have multiple parts depending on the number of accepted presentations. Authors are also welcome to submit other abstracts to other sessions. As is customary at the ISA conferences there is no full paper requirement. You are welcome to submit your abstracts in English and Spanish. In case of a presentation in Spanish, live translation to English via live caption will be provided.
